Memorial Day
Well, as Memorial Day comes and passes, I wonder why we even have the holiday anymore.
I am all for respecting and remembering those who died for us and our country, etc., but do we have to make a sales event out of it?
I mean, come on.
We already have Christmas, New Years, Easter, Veteran's Day, President's Day, etc. made into sales events.
Do we need another one?
Apparently so.
Anyway, pertaining to my life goal #52, "Celebrate at least one obscure holiday per week."
In acheiving that goal, I give you...
Anguilla Day!
Happy Anguilla Day!
Today(May 30) is the day where we celebrate the small island of Anguilla, a British controlled isldand in the Carribbean!
Go hug an Anguillan!
:)

Austin

PS We don't make a sales event out of Anguilla day, now do we?
Do we?
Huh?
Yea, that's what I thought.
It's all a conspiracy.

Austin, America doesn't make a holiday out of it anymore. That's a big problem. No one cares. They say "I love the military" but they don't do anything about it. I would say: not, "why do we have that holiday when we already have so many others?" but "why do we have that holiday when no one takes notice of it?"
Through all of America's history, soldiers gave up their lives for us. Gave up their family, friends, and life so that we could live here today. I dont' come from a heavily military family, but I greatly respect those people. And I think their sacrifice should be celebrated. You could almost compare it to Christ's death. He gave up everything for the whole human race. We have Easter. Soldiers gave up everything for Americans. Shouldn't we do something for them too?
Celebrating Memorial Day isn't just about the soldiers. It's about pride. American pride. It's about freedom. It's about safety. It's about sacrifice.
I think Americans have forgotten where their roots are. They've forgotten how to have pride. They've forgotten the price.
Even if they take Memorial Day off the calendar, I think it will always live in the hearts of the American people. The true American people.

Well, it isn't so much that it's another holiday, but that it's another sales event.
I think that having more holidays for our soldiers and our pride is wonderful and necessary.
The only reason many Americans observe Memorial Day is for the cookout and sales events.
That is wrong.
You have a good point, though.
In Christ,
Austin
